Apple replaced titanium with aluminum and charged the same price. The internet noticed and moved on in a week. What the aluminum actually bought was a bigger battery — 39 hours of video playback, six more than the 16 Pro Max. The camera bar now spans the full width of the back. Three 48MP cameras. 8x periscope telephoto. The A19 Pro chip is processing things that the software has not caught up to yet. Apple still ships the phone without a charger in the box. $1,199 and the brick is $39 extra. That detail has not changed in four years and they have no intention of changing it.

Same Tensor G4 chip as the Pixel 9 Pro. Same AI features. Same seven years of updates. A 48MP camera that outperforms phones at twice the price — not because the sensor is bigger but because Google spent eight years teaching software what a good photo looks like before the shutter closes. $499. Google sells it at this price because the search data and the Assistant habits and the cloud storage subscriptions pay for the difference. That arrangement is either fine or it is not, depending on who you are. The phone is exceptional either way.

Snapdragon 8 Elite. 6,000mAh battery. 100W charging that fills the phone in 36 minutes. IP68 and IP69 — tested against high pressure water jets that most flagships skip entirely. The alert slider survived another generation because OnePlus users treat it like a religion. $899 against $1,199 and $1,299. The benchmarks are identical. The cameras are close. The price gap is $300 to $400 and nothing in the flagship tier justifies it. OnePlus has been making this argument for a decade and the flagship buyers keep not listening.

The Z Fold 7 is 26 percent thinner than the Fold 6 and lighter than an iPhone 17 Pro Max. A phone that opens into an 8-inch tablet and fits in a jacket pocket. The crease is still there — it has always been there and Samsung has been promising it will go away for four generations. It has not gone away. At $2,000 you are buying the only serious foldable on the market, which means Samsung sets the price and you decide if you need one badly enough.

The Tensor G5 loses every benchmark it enters against Qualcomm and wins every photo it takes against the same phones that beat it. Eight years of computational photography research sitting inside a $1,099 phone that lays flat on a table because the camera bar was designed to. PixelSnap magnets on the back. Seven years of OS updates. Google will support this phone longer than most people keep phones. The tradeoff is a chip that throttles under sustained load and runs warmer than it should. Google knows. The camera is still worth it.

The S Pen is still in the chassis. Samsung keeps including it because a small enough percentage of buyers use it daily that removing it would cause a noise disproportionate to the actual loss. 60W charging on a $1,299 phone in 2026. OnePlus ships 100W on an $899 phone. Samsung knows. They shipped it anyway.
